Assabet Aqueduct
Bring a little Northborough home.
Ceramic Mug · White · 11 oz
While the kettle heats and the cup is set out, there is a little time to sit at the kitchen table and notice the picture waiting beside your hand. Northborough's masonry aqueduct and its reflected arches give the Assabet a piece of water infrastructure to notice beside the river itself.
An 1897 photograph records Northborough's masonry Assabet aqueduct and its water reflections. Preserved in the Massachusetts Archives' Metropolitan Water Works collection, the image documents water infrastructure. The arches belong to an aqueduct, giving this riverside landmark a different purpose from the valley's railway bridges.
The aqueduct connects the river landscape with water supply. Give it a place near the tea or coffee, so the local view is ready for the cups that come around each day.
