Assabet Aqueduct
Bring a little Northborough home.
Slate Desk Plaque · 11 × 7 inches
A book, a pen and a page of work are ready on the desk, with the small plaque set nearby where there is time to notice its picture. Northborough's masonry aqueduct and its reflected arches give the Assabet a piece of water infrastructure to notice beside the river itself.
An 1897 photograph records Northborough's masonry Assabet aqueduct and its water reflections. Preserved in the Massachusetts Archives' Metropolitan Water Works collection, the image documents water infrastructure. The arches belong to an aqueduct, giving this riverside landmark a different purpose from the valley's railway bridges.
The aqueduct connects the river landscape with water supply. Keep the plaque on the desk where its picture can be noticed between a page of work and the next task.
