Assabet Aqueduct
Bring a little Northborough home.
Unframed Matte Poster · 11 × 14 inches
The wall beside a favorite reading chair can hold a picture with details to look at closely, when you set down a book or pause between the day's tasks. Northborough's masonry aqueduct and its reflected arches give the Assabet a piece of water infrastructure to notice beside the river itself.
An 1897 photograph records Northborough's masonry Assabet aqueduct and its water reflections. Preserved in the Massachusetts Archives' Metropolitan Water Works collection, the image documents water infrastructure. The arches belong to an aqueduct, giving this riverside landmark a different purpose from the valley's railway bridges.
The aqueduct connects the river landscape with water supply. Choose a wall where you will see the picture during the day, letting the local view become part of the room's ordinary surroundings.
