Boston Harbor from the State Street Block
Bring a little Boston home.
Corkwood Coaster Set · Four pieces · 3.75 × 3.75 inches
A visit from friends can begin with setting down cups and glasses, leaving a moment to notice the pictures beneath them. Warehouses and moored vessels fill the harbor basin seen from the State Street block, putting Boston's shore buildings beside their maritime traffic.
The source is a published Soule stereograph issued circa 1850-1920, opposite-facing warehouse basin and moored vessels. The view preserves a particular relationship between Boston Harbor and its shore. Water, buildings and routes form a record of local maritime life at the time of the source.
The published stereograph connects commercial waterfront architecture with vessels at the wharf, keeping a particular harbor-facing relationship within the city's historical views. Use the set when friends come over, with a view under each drink and the local connection there to share.
