Hingham Shipyard Construction
Bring a little Hingham home.
Square Magnet · 4 × 4 inches
A glance at the fridge can take in more than the week's list. Land preparation and the water's edge define Hingham Shipyard's construction aerial, showing the shore before a completed shipbuilding operation fills the view.
The source records a April 17, 1942 construction-progress aerial of the new wartime shipyard; land preparation and the water edge are the story. Wharves and shore facilities connected this part of Hingham with harbor transport and work. The image preserves one stage of that relationship, with its source date distinct from the age of the structures.
The construction stage connects Hingham's waterfront with the making of a wartime workplace, keeping the preparation of the shore within the shipyard's recorded story. It makes a small gift that can find a place beside an ordinary household list.
