Tank Lighters at Boston Navy Yard
Bring a little Charlestown home.
Corkwood Coaster Set · Four pieces · 3.75 × 3.75 inches
A coaster beside the reading chair is ready for the next cup. Rails and hulls stand with the harbor beyond in the Boston Navy Yard tank-lighter scene, putting construction equipment and completed small craft together.
The navy caption identifies 50-foot LCM(3) tank lighters, completed August 1942; rails, hulls and harbor beyond. The yard's piers and buildings connect this particular view to Boston's history of shipbuilding, repair and harbor work. They preserve a working waterfront at the time of the source.
The tank lighters connect the waterfront with a particular kind of naval craft, keeping the yard's production work visible at the scale of its hulls and rails. Put them where the kettle's cups are usually gathered, so the view has a place in the ordinary routine of tea at home.
