Commercial Wharf across Pier 3
Bring a little Boston home.
Slate Desk Plaque · 11 × 7 inches
Between opening a book and making a few notes, a small display can give the eye somewhere else to go. The stone edge, basin and wharf buildings lead toward Commercial Wharf from Pier 3, giving Boston's harborfront a particular viewpoint across the water.
The photograph dated May 30, 1973 is titled "Toward Commercial Wharf across Pier 3 toward Aquarium"; its description records early morning views of Boston from Pier 4, South Boston. Stone seawall, harbor water and waterfront buildings preserve a particular relationship between Boston Harbor and its shore.
The pier viewpoint connects Commercial Wharf's buildings with their harbor basin, keeping the water-facing relationship within Boston's changing waterfront record. It can sit among a few favorite books, giving the shelf a particular local subject as well as something to read.
