Water Battery, Charlestown Navy Yard
Bring a little Charlestown home.
Metal Art Sign · 7 × 5 inches
An indoor wall near the entryway or desk is somewhere you pass often, with time to notice the sign's picture between setting down your keys and the next task. Waterfront cannon and the harbor beyond give Charlestown Navy Yard's Water Battery view a defensive setting distinct from its docks and shipways.
A stereograph published circa 1850-1920 shows a waterfront cannon battery with the harbor beyond. The yard's piers and buildings connect this particular view to Boston's history of shipbuilding, repair and harbor work. They preserve a working waterfront at the time of the source.
The battery connects the naval shore with defense of the harbor, keeping a particular waterfront installation within the yard's broader historical landscape. Give the sign a place indoors where you can notice its picture during the day.
